Conscious Companies: Lemi Shine

Lemi Shine was just a little known local brand before the Eggemeyer Family sold their farm in rural west Texas, and began building the company into one that produces a complete line of kickass household cleaning products. According to the brand’s website “Lemi Shine lives by the precautionary principle: if an ingredient isn’t safe, we don’t go near it.” The precautionary principle is far from the norm when it comes to consumer goods sold in the U.S, in fact it’s quite the opposite- by U.S law chemical ingredients are safe until proven otherwise, making consumers the guinea pigs for companies to test products on. Which is why it’s so refreshing and exciting to discover Lemi Shine and their non-toxic, cruelty-free and septic safe products. 

Not only are the products safe, and the packaging amazing, but they really work! Hooray! Especially the laundry detergent pods- we love the Burst of Sunshine scent. It’s hard work trying to find a non-toxic laundry detergent that actually cleans and leaves a lovely scent, so thank goodness for the Lemi Shine FunkGuard™. Other Happy Cantaloupe favorites are the dishwasher detergent pods and disinfecting wipes. Ever notice how uncomfortable it is to use conventional disinfecting wipes with your bare hands? It’s not a fun feeling when your fingers burn after wiping a table. The Lemi Shine wipes are far less irritating for sensitive skin, thanks to the active ingredient of naturally derived citric acid, as opposed to the harsh chemicals in conventional wipes. Currently 12 products from the Austin-based brand’s lineup sport the Safer Choice certification by the Environmental Protection Agency, and the company is working to obtain the certification on all eligible products by 2020.
