Conscious Companies: Henry Rose
There has never been a fully transparent fine fragrance brand before Henry Rose. This brand, which currently consist of five wonderful unisex scents: Last Night, Torn, Dark Is Night, Fog, and Jake’s House, is the first of its kind. The company’s founder, actress Michelle Pfeiffer, has been on an arduous journey for decades, since the birth of her daughter, to make fragrance houses understand her mission of full ingredient transparency.
We certainly think the time for Henry Rose is now, as consumers are wising up to the toxicity of conventional fragrances, and the health costs associated with “proprietary formulas”. We are incredibly delighted that Pfeiffer has managed to build a brand without compromising on the integrity of her vision. Having worked alongside the Environmental Working Group during development, and narrowed down the acceptable ingredient pool from the usual 3000 to around 300 through rigorous testing, she has earned the products the certification of the first ever fine fragrance to be EWG VERIFIED™. The safety ranking of each of the individual ingredients used can be found on the Skin Deep Cosmetic Database.
The company’s transparency does not end with their formulas, as the beautifully modern packaging is made from recycled paper, compostable soy, 90% recycled glass. This is all to say that the status of the first fine fragrance to be Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Gold has most definitely been earned, and we look forward to seeing other fragrance companies follow suit, and step their transparency game.
